At Tautoro School we are doing the Water Challenge. The challenge is to switch our sugary drinks to water for 30 days! Why would anyone want to drink water for 30 days? Well, I am going to explain why sugary drinks are harmful to our health.

Weight Gain

Firstly sugary drinks can make you gain weight. Did you know if you drink a can every day once a year you will gain 6.5kgs. Being obese puts you at greater risk of things such as : heart disease,kidney disease,type 2 diabetes,stroke & some cancers which means you could die young. From my research,I discovered that kids have to have 1,600 - 2,200 calories a day. Ladies have to have 2000 calories. Men have to have 2500 calories a day. If you have too much calories you will become fat have loads of medical issues.

    Hidden Acid

Secondly sugary drinks that have acid in them have a high erosive potential. Acid softens teeth enamel and dissolves the outer layer. For example our class put an egg into sugary drinks for a couple of days and the outer layer of the egg came off & when we cracked open the eggs they were fine nothing happen to the inside of the egg just the outside of the egg. Acid dissolve & sugar rots. Acid is a chemical that dissolves food in your stomach & can dissolve teeth. Don’t drink sugary drinks it will dissolve the outer layer of your teeth.

               

In conclusion

In conclusion, sugary drinks can cause wieght gain and has hidden acids in them.

I think I was successful because I had big words,colour theme and happy instrumental music.

Stop drinking Red Bull Zero.

A couple of days ago we did a science experiment.The experiment was what happens to eggs when they sit in sugary drinks (fizzy) days later we pulled out the eggs and the results were disgusting.This is what we did.First we poured 200 ml of coke and sparkling water into each container with the egg in it.

Then we tested what the pH scale was for the sugary drinks.We submerged the strip in the drink for 9 minutes we wanted to see if the colour would change..The colour for mine was orange and yellow.To finish off we put them on the window sill.Red Bull Zero had a chemical reaction to the egg. The outer layer of the egg shell was peeling off.We came down to the mat and compared the pH strips to the pH scale.Science Photos and video
