WALT use visualisation strategy to help us understand complex ideas.

The visualisation strategy helps you to visualise what it says in the text by creating a picture in your head of the key ideas.  Its like you are creating a movie to help you remember things.

This will help you as a reader when you have to answer comprehension questions or remembering facts for a quiz.

At Tautoro School we are doing the Water Challenge. The challenge is to switch our sugary drinks to water for 30 days! Why would anyone want to drink water for 30 days? Well, I am going to explain why sugary drinks are harmful to our health.

Weight Gain

Firstly sugary drinks can make you gain weight. Did you know if you drink a can every day once a year you will gain 6.5kgs. Being obese puts you at greater risk of things such as : heart disease,kidney disease,type 2 diabetes,stroke & some cancers which means you could die young. From my research,I discovered that kids have to have 1,600 - 2,200 calories a day. Ladies have to have 2000 calories. Men have to have 2500 calories a day. If you have too much calories you will become fat have loads of medical issues.

    Hidden Acid

Secondly sugary drinks that have acid in them have a high erosive potential. Acid softens teeth enamel and dissolves the outer layer. For example our class put an egg into sugary drinks for a couple of days and the outer layer of the egg came off & when we cracked open the eggs they were fine nothing happen to the inside of the egg just the outside of the egg. Acid dissolve & sugar rots. Acid is a chemical that dissolves food in your stomach & can dissolve teeth. Don’t drink sugary drinks it will dissolve the outer layer of your teeth.

               

In conclusion

In conclusion, sugary drinks can cause wieght gain and has hidden acids in them.

Stop drinking Red Bull Zero.

A couple of days ago we did a science experiment.The experiment was what happens to eggs when they sit in sugary drinks (fizzy) days later we pulled out the eggs and the results were disgusting.This is what we did.First we poured 200 ml of coke and sparkling water into each container with the egg in it.

Then we tested what the pH scale was for the sugary drinks.We submerged the strip in the drink for 9 minutes we wanted to see if the colour would change..The colour for mine was orange and yellow.To finish off we put them on the window sill.Red Bull Zero had a chemical reaction to the egg. The outer layer of the egg shell was peeling off.We came down to the mat and compared the pH strips to the pH scale.Science Photos and video

Not everyone thinks sports is as outstanding as I think it is plus sports is better than music.Do you agree with me? If you don’t here are three tremendous reason why I think it is.

One reason why I think sports is more important than music because sports gets you fit and healthy.How appalling is it to know that people, especially kids, get sick  rom diabetes and other tragic medical health issues.How outrages is that.Sports is a great way to get fit and healthy and lose some weight.How does playing sports gets you fit and healthy?Well it’s simple all of that running around moves your muscles giving your the adrenaline to win.

Another reason why I think sports is far more important than music because you make friends.For example when the all blacks and the wallabies play it looks like they hate each other but they don’t their just playing rugby.Have you ever played sports and made friends with the other team? Well this my friend is what I call uniting nations.Uniting nations is when you make friends with the other team you can friends from all over the world.How magnificent is that? You won’t be a loner.

My last reason is because sports makes you brave.Do you know that feeling when you get loads of butterflies? Well you’re going to learn that when you play sports butterflies don’t matter. But if they do your not going to win.But when you keep playing games, such as touch and netball,  over and over you basically get over the fact that you’re scared and those big people who look so scary actually aren’t so scary anymore.

Teaching Kids

We are learning about the nine parts of speech.This my groups DLO. I think it was easy learning about the nine parts of speech then making a DLO.I think we were successful because we learn't and then we taught others.

Did you know kids are making your clothes?.

In class I had to write a recount from the perspective (view) of a child working in a sweatshop.I chose to be a kid working in Costa Rico.

I think it was fun to write a story about being in Costa Rico making clothes.I did some research and chose to be in Costa Rico.I think i'm successful because I have sentences that are sad or scary.

Name: Kaya Making clothes for Nike On an early Tuesday morning. I headed to the factory. Ohh by the way i’m Eleni, anyway. I was early as always. Being late is the worst. Cause you had to make extra clothes did I mention I worked at the Nike factory in Costa Rica. Yeah, so you had to make extra clothes ; you didn’t get anything to eat, unless you have finished making an extra twenty five clothes.You had to make twenty clothes already.So you had to make forty five clothes if you were late. Minutes later I heard our boss Rocko yell at Rea and demanded her to make an extra twenty five.“You're late, worker ten once your done your twenty make an extra twenty five now!” (Rocko called us by our station numbers because he forgot our real names) “Yes sir” She quivered and walked back to her station.My heart was pounding away in my chest when our boss stopped at my station and opened his mouth.I thought he was going to say make an extra twenty five and no rice for you,but he said “Well done”. A smile was growing on my face. Beep! The bell for lunch rang.We all left our stations and lined up for our bowls of rice.If you were lucky enough you could get bread with your rice. Yum. We had ten minutes to eat our food ; get back to work.Hours later.Everyone had a twenty minute break.My friend Maria and I could smell something horrible.Like a room full of corpses.Yuck.We were daydreaming that we were in cool places like Rainbow End,Arcades,Water parks and going hiking.Then… I fainted.A couple seconds later I woke up again. “Whew” Maria said while she wiped her sweat.”Ten more minutes” the boss yelled. We jumped onto the roof and looked down.We could see five kids working at their stations ; they were late.They didn’t get any food.They were also getting hit by belts.We saw our boss walking to the door so we jumped down just in time.He walked through the door.“Five more minutes” he yelled waking everyone up. We told everyone what happend.”We saw him hit them with belts” I whispered.Everyone had at least more than one belt mark from where they were hit.”Back to work” Rocko demanded.Hours later.It was one pm. It was time to go home.Most of us didn’t have homes so stayed at work or slept outside.Tommorow I will start all over again except on Wednesday I work twenty hours and get four hours of sleep.Thank you for reading my story.

WALT improve our writing by carefully checking our sentences and trying to add descriptive language.By highlighting them yellow.

I think I am very good at adding descriptive language in my writing.My next steps are to add punctuation in my dialogue.

PAYBACKS.

“We’re going to the beach we’re going to the beach”Kullen chanted with heaps and heaps of excitement. It was like Christmas morning and he was so so excited to open his presents.

We all put our togs on and jumped right into the water. Then... I Scared my cousins. I had a hold of them but my cousin Paula and Jahnel got away.I was pulling Tia down. She was freaking out so she tried kicking me but kept missing so she screamed as loud as she could but every time she would scream I would pull her straight down.She was a victim of a horror movie.She was as scared as a cat having a bath.

Finally I let her go, I started laughing at her so she said “You just wait I will get you back”.She told me “You just keep on laughing you can have this moment for now” My heart was pounding as fast as a wild horse.

Five minute later we had a big picnic with chocolate, skittles,chicken,chips,crackers and drinks.I have never ever tasted more delicious food than that.  Then Tia sprinkled sand all over my chicken she said “Who’s laughing now” I was soo angry, I was about to explode.My mouth tasted disgusting. After that we had a sand ball fight.It was amazing.Finally we went home.I will never forget that day when my cousin got me back for pranking her.That was the best day of my life except for when Tia got me back.

To be successful we will:

1. Think about an cause (event) and what happens because of it (effect)
2. Use cause and effect connectives such as because of this, as a result, as a consequence and when this happens…
3. Check that full stops are at the end of the idea (remember it will be simple, compound or complex)

Here is my paragraph about dump design.

Designed for the dump is when creators make electronics to last 2 years then break so that they get more money and we lose money.When electronics break or go out of fashion we take them to the dump.As a consequence our landfills are pilling up with e-waste as a result people ripping electronics apart will become sick.  

I think I successful because I can see a cause and effect sentence.
I think it was hard to come up with the effects.

This is my speech I think I was successful because I changed the tone of my voice and used expressions. When we have the contest I will improve by speaking loudly and clearly.

This is my te reo maori I though it was hard because finding the right maori words and saying them were hard too.

I still need to learn to remember to use full stops instead of commas.

Splash!Splash! Mud and water went up my face.It dropped to the ground Splat!. maybe we should go back to when we arrived.Let’s go to the beginning.

It was a long long long time ago actually it was just 5 minutes ago. We had arrived at Okaihau for my cousin’s rugby game and straight away.Crazy me jumped out with excitement and ran to the muddy puddles and jumped in them as much as I can.Splash! Splash!

Then I made the biggest mistake of my life It was…….Splashing my mum.I fell with laughter the look on her face was to die for. It was hilarious but on the other hand my mum was having a temper. Her face was bright red.I knew by the look on her face that I was walking home. My dad came over to see what happend. My little annoying brother followed  like a little duck following his mum except he followed my dad.Splash! Splash!"Opps!" I quivered (I did not know dad was right behind me). “Bye” I said while I was running away,  I ask my nana and papa if they could take me home.

Five thousand years later my cousin and his team lost their rugby game.Here I am, saying “ Is this all we spent five thousand years for them to lose really well i’m out of here” then I could feel something behind I didn’t know what it was but it was a huge big fat...Ohh It was just my cousin covered in the most mud I could ever see a person covered,It was like he was a magnet but a mud one and every little piece of mud was on him.I couldn’t stop laughing he was the mud monster.I heard about him but I didn’t know he was real even if he was real I can’t believe that he was my cousin.

All night I couldn’t stop laughing because he had to take at least more than twenty showers,the water would of been cold by now or at least getting cold.I will never forget about that time that my cousin was the mud monster NEVER NEVER NEVER.
